Scarab eBook Stavros Halvatzis

Buried in a hidden chamber beneath the great Sphinx of Giza, lies the most potent secret in history. Older than the pyramids, older than Atlantis, it has the power to change the world. Powerful men will do anything to posses it. There is just one thing standing in their way – the living Sphinx itself.
Scarab eBook Stavros Halvatzis
When I 'found' this book on Amazon (looking, honestly, to spend as little as possible) I was so happy ... there was a little bit of mystery and myth, a little bit of magic of both good and evil, and the potential for a tremendous story. I sat down and began to read at my Kindle App for PC (thank you, Amazon!)...I was not aware of time passing, of being hungry or thirsty. I was drawn in. Yes, part of my initial interest was the Sphinx itself, but what happened to my mind when the Man-Lion confronted the the greedy and power-hungry antagonist in the first few pages I was completely captivated ...
Mr. Halvatzis has written two books now, since the promised follow up has been released since I first read this book. I must admit to having read both of them twice through, and 'Scarab' - just now - a third time.
If you rush to "qualify" this book as one type or another and let it go, then I am truly sorry. It contains a bit of fun, a bit of legend, and a lot of interesting knowledge of quantum physics. If I had not learned a bit of than in college I would have been lost; instead I was caught up and "got" the message. This last reading elicited a response I did not expect from myself during which I truly "found" also a morality tale the like of which I had not 'caught' before. Also, just this afternoon I felt a deep sadness for the Man-Lion and it's friend, the final computer chip (an understatement) who found its only friend in that being. Not to mention the capability of this legendary Man-Lion to empathize with us poor foolish humans. It would spoil a new reader's time to say why...
Note that I am not an 'objective reader', in any sense of the word. Rather, I become a part of a good, well-told story and place myself somewhere aside, as if watching the plot unfold and affect the characters "from the sidelines" (for lack of a better description - please pardon my insufficient words to explain). I have never been so grateful to find such an extraordinary tale that made me stop, think, go back and re-read. It is definitely "un-put-down-able" I have done nothing else all afternoon but soak it up all over again ...
Respectfully submitted (and Mr. Halvatzis, please forgive my tardiness ...).

Scarab eBook Stavros Halvatzis Reviews
More of a Sci--Fi thriller than a horror tale but fascinating the whole way through with a very surprising twist for a ending. I ended up reading it in one sitting. Never heard of the author before, but if his other works as good as this one, I'll be expecting great things of him in the future.
With the $0.99 -only, indie-published offerings, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes it's a draw. "Scarab", from first-time author Stavros Halvatzis, has little or nothing to do with pyramids, ancient Egypt or scarabs (apparently to the dismay of several reviewers). It does, however, have something to do with the Sphinx, AI, and quantum computing.
Our heroes (Emma, a 20-something film school student with, shall we say, "easy" morals, and Jack, a 40-something ex-alcoholic writer with a recently dead cat and no real prospects) become entangled with the nefarious schemes of an über-wealthy computer chip magnate, a murder or two, and end up fleeing to South Africa to confront the baddie in his secret lair.
More a novella than a novel at roughly 176 pages on my iPad, Scarab occupied a not entirely unpleasant afternoon while I had the flu. The writing was OK - no huge gaffes, hideous grammatical errors or abundance of typos that one often sees in the $0.99 offerings, and I think the author has potential. The pacing was fine and kept my interest right until the last 12% or so when I could finally figure out where all this was going.
There were a few things left unclear at the end - I never could figure out what the @%$^@ was up with the Sphinx that appears in the first chapter - and the ending was a little too "happily ever after", but for a first try, not so bad. I will gladly invest another $0.99 to see how Mr. Halvatzis develops. Two and three quarter stars, rounded up to three for a new author.

I finished yesterday reading on my this book and for the most part it was okay. It really wasn't what I expected. The characters I think could have had a little more depth to them. And the main "vilian" if you want to call him that didn't really have much of a part in the book at least I thought. The man in the "black suite" seemed to show up more then the character who was really behind the whole AI system. Also I kind of got the connection between the Sphinx and the Scarab maybe because they kind of have something to do with the sun, but when I read up on the two they really are two different entities, but that's just my oppinion. Otherwise it's a fairly decent read it's got some action and sex to it, but other then that it's so so.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I love books of this nature, full of speculation and skating on the edge of reality. This did not disappoint. Archaeology? Check. Cutting edge science? Check. Joining the two? Whoa. I see in the author notes there's a second one. Will definitely look for it.
